Five Things Every Mom Needs to Know

Dear Mama,

Congratulations and welcome to this amazing new life changing experience! Ever wonder if there was a way to simplify the vast information about being a new mom? Well, here are five things every new mom needs to know. And while you may be feeling overwhelmed with information, sleep deprived, looking at your adorable little one who is feeding for the 25th time this hour (at least that’s what it seems like), wondering what you’ve gotten yourself into, please remember:

1. You are strong. Your body, spirit, and mind have been changed for the arrival of this little person. You will realize that you are a mama bear when it comes to your child. You will understand what it means to love selflessly. And on days when you feel like you have no energy, you will still be able to be there for your child. Your presence and love is appreciated, dear mama.

2. You are beautiful. You may look in the mirror and wonder: who is this person in front of me? Even on the days you may feel the least like your pre-baby self, physically and emotionally, remember you are a warrior. Every stretch mark and scar attests to your unique beauty.

3. You are a great mom. Whether it’s breastfeeding, formula, or a combination of both, you are feeding your child. And that makes you awesome.

4. You will learn more about yourself than ever before. There will be days you feel you have it all together while on other days, not so much. Nevertheless, these will be beautiful, emotional, challenging, enlightening times.

5. You are not alone, dear mama. Know when to ask for help. Find a support system, friends, family, help with chores and/or childcare, or whatever you need. Whether it’s baby #1, 2, 3, or more, I hope we can support, encourage, and motivate each other.

How has motherhood treated you so far? I’d love to hear from you!

As moms we sometimes forget all that we do and focus on what all we aren’t doing. Thanks Kat! I’d appreciate it.

It’s so important to remind ourselves that we aren’t alone on this journey. I’m so grateful for all the moms I’ve encountered since birthing my first baby who have come alongside to support my family and me through the ups and downs of parenthood. Truly, it takes a village!

Great post! I love point 5, that we are not alone. It’s truly necessary to have other mom-friends and a support system.
